Life cycle of the Maine Moose

Over time the moose population has gone through many drastic changes. In the 1600's the Maine Moose was plentiful in New England, but by the early 1900's due to none or very little moose hunting laws the population went down to about 2,000. During the mid 1900's laws were introduced to protect the moose and limit the hunting, because of the efforts the current population is estimated to be around 76,000. The Maine moose can be hunted every year in October and November. In order to kill a moose though you need to buy a permit which can only be won through a lottery system. The moose that is native to Maine is the Eastern Moose it still currently lives in Maine.

Female moose also know as cows are pregnant for a period of about eight months. A moose's lifespan is 15-25 years naturally.
